U.S. News MBA ranking

The U.S. News MBA ranking is U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of full-time, campus-based MBA programs at AACSB-accredited US schools. It is the prestige list domestic applicants quote. It does not rank part-time, online, or most non-US programs in the same table.

Methodology moves. Read the year you are citing.

How it is measured

U.S. News blends placement, student selectivity, and expert opinion. The 2026 business methodology page puts quality assessment at 25%, split between a peer assessment of deans and directors (12.5%) and a recruiter assessment. Peers rate schools from 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). A trimmed mean drops the highest and lowest scores.

Clear Admit’s 2026 recap described placement success as half the model that year: employment at graduation (7%), employment at three months (13%), mean starting salary and bonus (20%), and salary by profession (10%), with employment indicators as two-year weighted averages. Student selectivity (tests, GPA, acceptance rate) filled the remaining quarter in that recap. Always reconcile those weights to the current U.S. News methodology page before you treat them as frozen.

Example: in fall 2025 U.S. News surveyed hundreds of AACSB master’s-level business programs and ranked 134. A school that refuses the statistical survey can fall out. A school with modest three-year global mobility and huge US first-destination salaries can beat a European brand that FT prefers. The lists measure different jobs.

How it differs

The Financial Times MBA ranking surveys alumni three years out and includes research and international mix. Bloomberg leans on student and recruiter surveys. M7 is an informal nickname, not this list.

Common errors

Using a 2019 weight deck. Comparing a US News rank with an FT rank as if they shared a formula. Reading “unranked” as “unaccredited.”
