The Economist MBA ranking was The Economist magazine’s global full-time MBA list. Applicants still find old tables in blogs and treat them as current. Check whether the edition in your screenshot is still a living product before you let it pick a school.

Historical methods mixed student surveys, faculty quality, opening new career opportunities, and salary. Weights were not FT’s weights and not U.S. News’s weights.

How it works

When the list was active, schools submitted data and students answered surveys. A program that felt small and attentive could beat a larger brand on “experience” lines. A program with huge salaries and impersonal sections could beat it on pay. People then argued on forums as if one number had settled taste.

If you meet an essay consultant who still says “Economist top 10,” ask for the year. A 2019 table is a fossil.

Example: a 2018 Economist list puts School C at 9. The 2026 FT list puts it at 24. Neither fact tells you whether the operations core is good. Both facts tell you the market of lists moved.

How it differs

FT is still published on a dated method page. U.S. News is still published. Bloomberg still publishes a list. The Economist table is the one you should treat as archival unless you have a live current edition in hand.

Common errors

Pasting a dead rank into a comparison spreadsheet. Averaging it with live lists. Assuming The Economist accredited anyone.

Archival tables still circulate in consultant decks. If a comparison spreadsheet includes an Economist column with no year, delete the column. A live list has a method page dated this cycle. FT, U.S. News, Bloomberg, and QS are the ones to reconcile now. The Economist ranking is useful as history of how a school was talked about, not as a 2026 decision input.
