An exchange program sends an MBA student to a partner school for a term while the home school still grants the degree. Credits come back as electives if the mapping was approved in advance. One diploma. One tuition relationship, usually with the home school.

It is a visiting term, not a second MBA.

How it works

The home school publishes a partner list and a seat quota. Students apply internally. Popular partners fill. You stay on your home visa plan only if the partner country agrees; often you need a new student visa for four months.

Course mapping is the boring step that saves the degree. A partner finance elective that the home registrar will not count toward a concentration is a tourist semester. Get the mapping in writing before you book housing.

Example: you spend spring of year two at a partner in Paris. Home tuition remains $40,000 for the term. Paris housing is extra. Four courses map back as electives; one language course does not. You graduate on time from the home school. No second diploma, no joint degree.

How it differs

A global immersion is a week. A global MBA moves the cohort. A dual degree prints two credentials. An informal “I’ll take a class abroad” without a partner agreement is not an exchange.

Common errors

Leaving during the only term your target employers recruit on campus. Assuming AACSB at home covers the partner’s transcript automatically for every employer. Forgetting to map credits.

Recruiting calendars do not pause for Paris. Year-two exchanges collide with full-time on-campus lists. Students who need US OCR in the spring should exchange in a quieter term or skip it. Insurance, enrollment letters, and transcript timing can also delay graduation if a partner posts grades late. Build a two-week buffer before the home registrar’s degree-audit deadline.
