Application deadline

An application deadline is the timestamp a complete file must hit to sit in that round. Clicking submit is not enough if a score or recommendation is missing. Consortium: 11:59 p.m. EST, and incomplete files are not released (gmac.com; cgsm.org).

Is the deadline the submit click?+

No. Schools batch complete files. An official GMAT that arrives the next morning can knock you into the next round. Consortium’s instructions say a missing supporting item marks the application incomplete and it will not be released. Treat every third-party item as part of the deadline.

Round calendars publish a deadline, an interview window, a decision date, and a deposit date as a set. Missing the first one moves the other three. Rolling programs replace the round deadline with a complete-file date plus a last-start cutoff.

Example: Round 1 due 24 September 5:00 p.m. ET. You submit at 4:50 p.m. from Manila (which is already the next calendar day). If the portal is Eastern Time, you missed it. Deadlines are not “your Tuesday.”

Common errors

• Reading the school’s R1 date as Consortium’s 15 October date
• Assuming a pending official score still counts
• Ignoring time zone
• Treating rolling “priority date” as decorative

FAQ

What happens if I miss the deadline?+

You miss that round. Some portals dump you into the next round automatically; others make you reopen a new file. Rolling programs may still take you until the class fills. Do not email for a “24-hour grace” and expect a policy.

Does Consortium have its own deadlines?+

Yes. Early is typically 15 October; traditional is typically 5 January. Those dates are Consortium’s, not each member school’s R1/R2. Incomplete Consortium files are not released.

Can I submit and add a recommendation later?+

Only if the school says the file can sit incomplete. Many will not move it until the last letter lands. Plan recommenders as if they are the deadline.
