Full-time status for a graduate program follows what the school reports as full time, which may be 9 credits rather than 12. Public schools that want to keep GI Bill approval must charge covered Veterans the resident rate under 38 U.S.C. § 3679(c).
How does it interact with Yellow Ribbon?
If private or out-of-state charges exceed the cap, Yellow Ribbon can fill the gap when the school participates and the student is at the 100% benefit level. VA matches the school’s contribution. Housing allowance is separate and does not pay the bursar. Scholarships that hit tuition reduce the “net tuition” VA sees.

FAQ
Can I use GI Bill for a part-time MBA?
Yes, at a reduced rate of pursuit. Housing allowance proration follows credit load. Below half time, monthly housing is not paid; VA may still pay tuition.
Does GI Bill cover living expenses beyond the housing allowance?
The monthly housing allowance is the living piece. It is not the school’s COA housing line, and it stops at half time or below.
Is a public in-state MBA fully covered?
Often the tuition and mandatory fees are, at 100% eligibility. Optional fees and living costs are not automatically included.
