Conditional admission

Conditional admission is an MBA offer that holds only if the candidate meets named conditions before enrollment, such as official transcripts or a prerequisite. GMAC has no separate bucket for it. If the school later withdraws the offer, GMAC says not to count it as an admit.

What conditions usually look like

Georgetown’s MBA onboarding page is typical: the offer is contingent on verification of official transcripts, score reports, and degree certificates. Applicant-uploaded PDFs stay unofficial. Official transcripts come from the institution or its designated network. Official GMAT scores come through mba.com; screenshots and printed PDFs are not official. English tests follow the same sender rule.

Academic conditions are different in kind. A school may require a B in statistics by 1 August, a bachelor’s conferral if you applied in the last semester, or a higher TOEFL after a borderline sitting. Those are curriculum or compliance gates, not paperwork.

Example: you are admitted on 15 March with three conditions: official bachelor’s transcript with conferral, official GMAT released to the school, and a community-college accounting course with a B or better by 15 August. You release the GMAT in April and the registrar mails the transcript in May. You skip accounting. In August the school withdraws the offer. Under GMAC, that withdrawn offer drops out of the admit count. You are not a matriculant, and you are not a waitlisted candidate; you had an offer and lost it.

How it differs from waitlist, deferral, and test waiver

Waitlist is no offer. Deferral is an offer whose start date moved, usually at the candidate’s request. A test waiver is a decision that a score is not required for review; it is not a condition of an already issued offer (unless the waiver itself was conditional on a later GPA check). Conditional admission is an offer with a punch list.

Common errors

Treating the portal badge “Admitted” as final while official documents are still outstanding. Sending a WES evaluation and assuming the original transcript is optional when the school asked for both. Releasing GRE when the condition named GMAT. Completing a MOOC certificate instead of the graded course the letter specified. Waiting until orientation week to order a foreign registrar copy.

FAQ

Is conditional admission a real admit?+

It is a real offer, with strings. GMAC counts it as an admit if you are later allowed to matriculate. If the school rescinds before the start date, it does not count as an admit. Plan as if the strings are real: order official records the week you receive the letter.

Can a school add conditions after I deposit?+

Some will, if a document fails verification or a degree is not conferred. The clean process names conditions in the offer letter. If a new condition appears, get it in writing with a deadline. Do not start giving notice at work until conferral and official scores are actually in.

Does a test waiver remove score conditions?+

A waiver means the school agreed not to require a test for the decision. It does not waive official transcripts or English requirements unless the letter says so. If you submitted a GMAT anyway, GMAC’s 2026 note is that a submitted score still counts you as a tester even if a waiver was also granted.
